Carlos Mendes (born December 25, 1980 in Mineola, New York) is an American soccer player of Portuguese heritage who currently plays for New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer. He began his professional career in 2002 with the Long Island Rough Riders after graduating from Old Dominion University. He played the 2003 and 2004 seasons with the Rochester Rhinos. He then signed with the New York Red Bulls in 2005. For his efforts in 2006, he was voted Defender of the Year by his teammates. He currently wears #44 after selling his original number, 4, to Mexican international Rafael Marquez.
